These matcha and white chocolate brownies (or greenies?) are fudgy in the middle, with chewy edges and a crinkled top. Whether you are a matcha lover or not, these brownies are liked by everyone! The earthy flavor of the green tea with the sweetness of the white chocolate makes these brownies IRRESISTABLE. It´s an absolute matcha heaven!

What makes these the best matcha brownies?

When I think of how the perfect matcha brownie should be, this is what I imagine. They have a crinkly top, chewy edges, fudgy inside with delightful chunks of chocolate. The flavor is packed with matcha and balanced with that white chocolate goodness.

But the main reason why these are my favorite matcha brownies is because of how quick and easy the recipe is! Everything is done in essentially two steps. You could technically make everything in one pot. (I just happened to use a smaller pot in my recipe, so I had to use a mixing bowl for the eggs and sugar.)

Another reason why this recipe is the absolute BEST is that you do not need any electric mixer or other equipment. So not only is this recipe easy to throw together in minutes but you also have less mess to clean up!

In the end you will have the perfect matcha brownies where each fudgy and chocolaty bite melts in your mouth. I like to store half of them in the freezer, or else I risk eating the whole batch in a day or two!

Tips for making matcha brownies

Here are my tips that result in perfect fudgy matcha brownies:

Ceremonial grade Matcha – These brownies get their wonderful flavor and vibrant color from the matcha. Using a lower grade will make these more dull in flavor and color. Since the matcha is the star of the show, I highly recommend using a ceremonial grade matcha for this recipe.

White chocolate – Melting the white chocolate into the batter will result in a fudgy textured brownie. This will also ensure that every bite has a beautiful blend of earthy and sweet tones.

Mixing – Whisk all of the ingredients together until you add the flour. Then switch to a spatula. This way you will avoid overmixing the batter, resulting in a tough textured brownie.

Cooldown – Allow your brownies to cool down completely before you take them out of their form and start slicing. Otherwise, you will end up with a saucy and fudgy mess.

Matcha & White Chocolate Brownies – Frequently Asked Questions

How should I store the brownies?
Store these in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week. They will still be fudgy when cold, but you could microwave them quickly for a gooeyer texture!

What do matcha brownies taste like?
Matcha is a Japanese green tea powder that is earthy in flavor with grassy notes and slightly bitter taste. This might not sound inticing, but if you have tried the tea you know that it is very pleasant! I think these brownies in particular are designed to be liked by anyone, whether you like matcha or not. The melted white chocolate is such a great pairing with the flavor of matcha. This is a great place to try matcha for the first time for beginners!
